OKC Thunder quotes: Mark Daigneault, Tre Mann speak with media post-practice

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault and rookie Tre Mann spoke with the media following practice on Tuesday. The Thunder come off of a win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday that snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Thunder’s next game is against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, Feb. 2. This will be the second game without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is recovering from a right sprained ankle that will keep him out until at least the All-Star Break.

Let’s take a look at some of the most noteworthy quotes and paraphrased from Daigneault and Mann in the post-practice presser.

Stepping up with SGA out

Mann mentioned that Gilgeous-Alexander left a huge hole to fill on offense as he is the leading scorer on the team and has the ball in his hand most of the time. Mann said that everybody needs to step up in their own way and says that his way is to score the ball.

“Just having that mindset to look at the rim every time,” said Mann. “I feel like all guys realize that and we come out and try to give a little bit extra… For me, I just happen to be a scorer… So I just try to step it up.”

Shot selection

Daigneault said that he believes the team does a great job at shot selection despite not being efficient with shooting it. He said that while the team is not the most skilled yet, they have done a good job at creating quality looks.

Trade deadline anxiety

With the NBA Trade Deadline just nine days away, Daigneault said that the team has been pretty aware of it but try to stay focus on the present and not to worry too much about the future.

“We definitely wanna guide and support our players. I think the assistant coaches that work with them have a pulse.”

The Thunder have numerous players on the team who could be trade targets such as Kenrich Williams and Mike Muscala, who are both having great years off the bench.
