OHSAA: La Salle basketball self-reports ineligible player, forfeits 5 victories
MONFORT HEIGHTS– La Salle High School's basketball team finished the 2021 portion of the season 6-3 based on what happened on the hardwood. However, Athletic Director Brian Meyer confirms the school self-reported use of an ineligible player.
That takes away five Lancer victories and leaves the team record coming into the new year 1-8. They have since defeated Roger Bacon and lost at St. Xavier and at Winton Woods, putting them at 2-10 instead of 7-5 so far this season.
The player in question was not a starter and didn't play significant minutes but had played in too many semesters, according to Ohio High School Athletic Association rules. OHSAA permits eight semesters. Meyer said it was a transfer situation.
One of La Salle's forfeitures was a 58-39 home win over Turpin, who just knocked off Elder, the current No. 5 team in the Division I Ohio media poll. Turpin's record now goes to 9-1 with their lone loss coming to Walnut Hills just days before their home win over Elder.
La Salle also forfeited wins against Bishop Fenwick, Wyoming, Oak Hills and Colerain.
The Lancers now play the first of three straight home games starting with Elder Friday night at Bill Cady Court. They still are at 0-1 in the Greater Catholic League-South after last week's loss at St. Xavier.
