San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials arrested an off-duty Barstow Police officer during a domestic dispute with another man on March 20 in Victorville.

An off-duty Barstow Police officer was arrested during a domestic dispute with another man in Victorville, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said.

Victorville Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tricia Blake told the Daily Press on Friday that deputies on March 20 responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of Winona and Second streets.

The residence is in the 16800 block of Winona Street, booking records show. The area is east of Hesperia Road and north of Nisqualli Road.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Sureno Arroyo and Irwin Islas, identified as a Barstow Police officer, had gotten into a fistfight at the residence causing minor injuries to each other’s faces, sheriff’s officials said.

Both men were detained without incident and were medically cleared before being booked.

The 31-year-old Islas was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He was released on bail the same day.

Arroyo, 23, was arrested on suspicion of outstanding misdemeanor warrants and was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. He was also released the same day.

The nature of the relationship between Arroyo and Islas was not revealed.

In September 2021, Islas was among nearly a dozen BPD officers who received the 10851 Award for their efforts in combating auto theft and recovering stolen vehicles. The award was created by the California Highway Patrol and the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Barstow Police officials on Friday did not respond to a request for comment.
