Baltimore wins $266 million in opioid case against distributors
The city of Baltimore won $266 million in its lawsuit accusing top drug distributors McKesson and Cencora of fueling an epidemic of opioid addiction in the U.S., and is expected to seek billions more in the next phase of the case. A six-person jury in the Circuit Court for Baltimore found McKesson responsible for $192 million and Cencora for $74 million on Tuesday following a nearly two-month trial. Baltimore, which has been hit hard by the opioid crisis, opted out of large national opioid settlements in recent years in the hope of winning more money on its own.

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday threw out a $1.68 billion judgment against Iran's central bank that had been won by family members of troops killed and injured in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said a lower court judge should have addressed questions of state law before ruling against Bank Markazi and Luxembourg intermediary Clearstream Banking, a unit of Deutsche Boerse. In a 3-0 decision, the panel also rejected a claim that a 2019 federal law designed to make it easier to seize Iranian assets held outside the United States waived Bank Markazi's sovereign immunity.

Trump announced Wednesday that longtime aide Dan Scavino will serve as a deputy without giving a specific portfolio, campaign political director James Blair as deputy for legislative, political and public affairs, and Taylor Budowich as deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel.
