Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer surprisingly not selected in first round of NFL draft

When Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer opted to end his collegiate career with one year of eligibility remaining, many, including me, assumed he would be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

Well, we all know what happens when you assume something. …

Mayer was passed over by every team that selected during the first round. Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid was the first tight end off the board.

It’s an unfortunate scenario for Mayer, but he shouldn’t have to wait long into the second round for his name to be called. Ironically, the last Irish tight end to declare early, Cole Kmet, was also selected early in the second day of the draft.
