Northwest Lady Vikings eliminate Clarksville, 62-50, to reach Region 7-4A championship game
Northwest saw its 12-point, fourth quarter lead evaporate under the weight that Clarksville sophomore Imari Berry began to exert. Berry scored seven straight points to tie the game at 48 with less than six minutes remaining.
But Northwest (23-11) would outscore Clarksville 13-0 in the next two minutes and claimed a 62-50 victory to advance to the Region 7-4A championship game Wednesday and assure a 4A sectional Saturday.
The Lady Vikings will face Rossview for the region title at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Class 4A Miss Basketball finalist and Middle Tennessee State signee Ta'Mia Scott led all scorers with 29 points and eight rebounds and eclipsed 2,000 points for her career. She's the third Lady Vikings player to reach that milestone joining legends Kim Brooks and Ashley Haynes.
Berry, another 4A Miss Basketball finalist, led Clarksville (20-6) with 20 points and eight assists. Berry struggled with her shooting in the first half as Northwest harassed the All District 13 performer. Berry had one field goal and hit four free-throws for six points in the first half.
But she heated up in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter where her 11 points had Clarksville in position to steal the game from a Northwest team that led since early in the first quarter.
But Scott was equally as effective in the second half. She had 17 of her 29 points in the third and fourth quarter including three key baskets in a two-minute stretch after Berry tied it.
