Nina Dobrev Joked About Choosing Paul Wesley or Ian Somerhalder if She Were Back on ‘TVD’

The Vampire Diaries cast loves to troll each other and fans who might accidentally think Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley still “despise” each other like they did at the very beginning of the show. This time, Nina savagely joked about if she’d choose Paul’s character (Stefan Salvatore) or Ian Somerhalder’s character (Damon Salvatore) if she were playing Elena Gilbert again.

On Monday, E! News posted a picture of Paul and Ian sitting together and sipping on their new TVD-inspired joint venture, Brother’s Bond bourbon. They captioned it, “POV: You’re Elena on #TheVampireDiaries. Who are you choosing?” and added, “Hey @Nina…quick q,” to make sure the actress saw.

Now, Elena’s character dated both Salvatore brothers on the show, and Nina dated Ian in real life from 2010 to 2013, so of course, everyone was eagerly awaiting her response. Without hesitation, Nina joked, “@ENews the bourbon,” and added a winking emoji.

Naturally, fans were obsessed with the lighthearted jab and commented, “@Nina omg😂💓 you’re the queen💪❤️❤️,” “She literally said, ‘We don’t need a man,’” and “@Nina girl, honestly, same. 😂🥃.”

This was all in good fun, but if there are any misguided peeps out there who think this is actual shade, know that Nina remains good friends with both Paul and Ian. When Nina and Ian broke up in 2013, a source told Us Weekly, “They will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started.”

As for Nina and Paul, in June 2019, she said, “Of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most. We’re probably the closest. We hang out a lot. We’re really good friends.”
