Neenah girls, Brillion boys at top of area high school basketball rankings
Here is the second edition of the area high school girls and boys basketball rankings. Teams area ranked on a "pound-for-pound" basis with ranking reflecting a team's success in relation to its enrollment size.
GIRLS
*Through Saturday's games
1, Neenah (6-0): Rockets averaging just a shade under 70 points a game and are coming off a 64-32 victory over Appleton North on Friday. Next: Tuesday at Appleton West.
2, Freedom (6-0): Irish pummel Waupaca 68-18 last Friday and their defense is averaging 19 steals and allowing just 25 points per game. Next: Tuesday at Denmark.
3, Hortonville (7-0): Polar Bears sophomore Rainey Welson leading the team in scoring (18.1) with Mikayla Werner pacing the team in rebounds (8.4). Next: Tuesday at Fond du Lac.
4, Kaukauna (6-0): Ghosts have eclipsed the 100-point barrier this season and are averaging 73.5 points a game. Next: Tuesday at Appleton East.
5, Chilton (6-0): Tigers get into top five after 51-40 victory over Two Rivers on Thursday and a loss by St. Mary Catholic to Oostburg. Next: Tuesday vs. New Holstein.

BOYS

2, Neenah (3-1): Rockets tumble from top spot after loss to Wisconsin Lutheran last Tuesday but rebound with win over Appleton North on Friday. Next: Tuesday vs. Appleton West.
3, Xavier (4-0): Hawks offense already in midseason form, averaging 81.2 points. Hawks play three games in the next six days (Menasha, West De Pere, Fox Valley Lutheran). Next: Tuesday vs. Menasha.
4, St. Mary Catholic (5-0): Zephyrs get 83-72 victory over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah last Thursday. Daniel Griffith leads the team in assists (6.4). Next: Thursday at Hilbert.
5, Fox Valley Lutheran (5-0): Foxes crack top five and are led in scoring by Sam Ferge (15.8) and Adam Loberger (13.4). Next: Tuesday vs. Clintonville.
