Jerry Bruckheimer has provided an update on the long touted new National Treasure adventure, confirming that discussions are already underway for a follow-up to the two action films.

But it’s not just a third cinematic installment that’s in development. A television series of National Treasure is currently in the works over at Disney+, too, with producer Bruckheimer telling Collider that it will feature a brand new cast.

"We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we're working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active. … The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”

Back in January, Bad Boys For Life’s writer Chris Bremner became attached to National Treasure 3, which is still set to be directed by Jon Turtletaub, who oversaw the previous installments, the last of which came out all the way back in 2007.

For those of you that can’t remember the previous National Treasure movies, they revolved around Nicolas Cage’s treasure hunter Benjamin Gates, who, with the help of Diane Kruger’s Abigail Chase, and Justin Bartha’s sidekick Riley Poole, uncovered various treasures and secrets from U.S history, all while being hounded by the government.

While both National Treasure films were met with only average reviews, they went on to earn a combined total of £648.60 million ($804.9 million) at the box office, despite costing just £185 million ($230 million) to make.
