National Signing Day: Meet the South Bend-area athletes who inked their letters of intent
SOUTH BEND — Across the country Wednesday non-football high school student-athletes signed national letters of intent to play college athletics. In the South Bend area, signees ranged from multiple girls basketball players headed to a top programs, multiple baseball state champions headed to Division I college teams and a boys basketball star hoping to become the next hometown hero.
Here are the local athletes who signed to their respective colleges:

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Amiyah Reynolds, University of Maryland
South Bend Washington
Before following her older sister Mila to Maryland, Amiyah Reynolds will try to win another state championship at South Bend Washington. The Panthers, now in Class 4A, are looking to go back-to-back after winning the 3A title last year in dominant fashion, and Reynolds figures to be one of the team's focal points.
Reynolds averaged 9.2 points in 25 games last season and is off to a hot start this season, averaging 16 points in Washington's first two contests.

Rashunda Jones, Purdue
South Bend Washington
Reynolds' backcourt runningmate has turned into a star, and a potential Indiana Ms. Basketball candidate this season. Jones, nicknamed "Spider," averaged 11.6 points last season during Washington's 3A state championship run and is averaging 11.5 points in its two games this season.
Nevaeh Foster, Western Kentucky
Mishawaka Marian
Foster has been a scoring machine during her Marian basketball career, winning a couple of sectional titles in the process. Last season, Foster scored 19.5 points per game and two games into her senior season is averaging 33 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
BASEBALL
Ian Hernandez, Marietta College
Penn High School
Hernandez was a pitcher on Penn's state championship baseball team last season, who had a perfect game against South Bend Washington. Hernandez posted a 2-1 record in 23 innings, with a 1.22 ERA and .913 WHIP. Hernandez struck out 25 batters while allowing only 14 hits.
Adam Lehmann, Western Michigan University
Penn High School
Lehmann was the starting catcher on Penn's state championship baseball team, and also made an impact on the mound. He batted .356 with 20 runs batted in, while posting a 3-1 record as a pitcher with a 1.65 ERA, striking out 49 in 34 innings.
Brayden Schoetzow, Wright State
Penn High School
Schoetzow knew Wright State was a perfect fit when it didn't pull his scholarship offer after he tore his UCL this past June. As a pitcher for the Kingsmen, Schoetzow finished with a 1.37 ERA in 51 1/3 innings, allowing only 29 hits and 10 earned runs. During that span he struck out 62 batters and had a 10-0 record, eight of which came in Northern Indiana Conference play.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Markus Burton, Notre Dame
Penn High School
Following in the footsteps of Marian's Demetrius Jackson, Riley's Blake Wesley and Saint Joseph's J.R. Konieczny, Burton will stay near home at Notre Dame. Burton caught the eye of smaller Division I schools during his breakout junior season and exploded into this season during summer ball. When he got an offer from Notre Dame, his recruitment was pretty much over.
Burton averaged 27.2 points per game last season and will be the focal point of a loaded Penn team this winter.
CROSS COUNTRY
Julia Economou, Purdue
Penn High School
Economou made her mark on Penn's cross country, track and basketball teams during her career. She led the Kingsmen to multiple track and cross country state meets over the past three seasons, including a sixth-place finish in this year's state cross country meet.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Zoe Montgomery, Manhattan College
Penn High School
Montgomery has been on the Penn lacrosse team since her freshman year. She was named defensive player of the year this past season and was also named to the 2022 Indiana All-Regional team.

GIRLS SOCCER
Payton Ladson, Holy Cross College
Penn High School
Ladson was part of Penn's girls soccer team that advanced to the this year's regional finals before losing to Crown Point.
Peyton Hull, Samford University
South Bend Saint Joseph
Hull has been a key member for Saint Joe's soccer and basketball teams. This past season, Hull finished with a 0.78 goals allowed average, allowing only 14 goals in 19 games with eight shutouts and 82 total saves.

Emin Penic, Holy Cross University
Penn High School
Penic was a member of Penn's semi-state boys soccer ream.
SOFTBALL
Madaline Wroblewski, Saint Xavier University
South Bend Saint Joseph
Wroblewski was part of Saint Joe's state championship softball team this past spring. In 31 games she batted .243 with 18 hits, 16 runs batted and a home run.
Kiley Hinton, Austin Peay State University
Penn High School
Hinton played shortstop last season for the Penn softball team. As a junior she batted .337 in 31 games with 32 hits, 30 RBI and five home runs in leading the Kingsmen to a sectional championship.
Gianna Camacho, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
Mishawaka
Camacho was a key member of the Mishawaka softball team this past season.
VOLLEYBALL
Macy Hatkevich, Toledo
Hatkevich has been a key member for Penn's volleyball team. This season she recorded 181 kills, 42 aces, 206 digs and 678 assists for the Kingsmen.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Mackenzie Konanz, Aurora University
Penn High School
Konanz was a freshman state champion for the Penn girls wrestling team and has been a state runner-up the past two season.
BOYS GOLF
Joe Swick, Spring Arbor University
South Bend Saint Joseph
Joe Swick was a key member of the South Bend Saint Joseph boys golf team this past spring.
