Much-anticipated Trilogy Hotel opens in downtown Montgomery
The three women painted on the wall have different skin tones, different hair colors. They are intertwined, smiling.
The mural encompasses a wall in the atrium of the Trilogy Hotel in Montgomery. These women represent a merging of cultures and an idea that Trilogy stands for, a hotel officials said.
“It’s a coming together, a unity," said Jan Smith, the director of sales for the hotel. “Everybody is welcomed."
Local artist Sunny Faulk painted the mural of the women. For the hotel, owners tried to rely on Montgomery talent.
“This is something this particular project we felt like was meant for Montgomery," Smith said. "It says a lot about Montgomery and the people here."
After much anticipation, the Trilogy Hotel, a Marriott product, opened Tuesday. The hotel combines two historic buildings, the Murphy House and the Water Works Building.
The lodging tax in March bumped up to $1,299,541.88 up from February's lodging tax of $985,627.04, meaning there was a marked increase in people staying in hotels in March.
The Trilogy Hotel has a restaurant, two bars and a ballroom. The hotel has already booked its first wedding reception for June, and the calls for similar events have been nonstop, Smith said.
The rooftop bar, dubbed Waterworks, is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and is open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Waterworks overlooks the entire downtown. Those who venture up to the bar can see church steeples and classic Montgomery homes in the background, while at dusk the site will offer prime viewing of sunsets.
Waterworks offers a full menu of food and drinks and is open to the public, not just hotel guests. All party-goers have to do is take the public elevator from the lobby up to the bar.
Between 80 to 140 can fit up in the bar overlooking the city.
Along with the rooftop bar, the fifth floor features eight suites, including two presidential suites.

Floors two, three and four each house 30 rooms. The first floor also has several rooms available. Standard rooms either have a king or two queen-sized beds.
The Murphy House, now called the KinSmith, plays host to the Tallapoosa Ballroom, which can fit a maximum of 120 people. It also has six rooms.
Since the KinSmith is a historic building, the owners could not conduct major renovations, so much of the building looks the way it did when first built.
“We were able to come in and facelift it," Smith said.
It keeps the original stairwell and features a private dining room as well as KinSmith A, a restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dinner is available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The KinSmith also features the Lightning Room, a bar that is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
