MTSU football adds UTEP, UAB, Louisiana Tech to 2022 schedule to replace teams leaving C-USA
The revised Conference USA football schedule was released Wednesday, and Middle Tennessee State will replace originally scheduled games against Southern Miss, Marshall and Old Dominion with games vs. Alabama-Birmingham, Texas-El Paso and Louisiana Tech.
Conference USA had to adjust the schedules after making an agreement to allow Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss to leave the conference to join the Sun Belt Conference following the 2021-22 academic year, as opposed to 2023.
That trims the 2022 conference from 14 teams to 11 teams in 2022. Six other C-USA schools have announced they are leaving for the American Athletic Conference in 2023.
The conference will add Liberty, New Mexico State, Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State in 2023.
MTSU opens the season with four non-conference games, including the opener at James Madison Sept. 3. Included in that stretch is a road contest at Miami on Sept. 24.

The conference schedule begins Oct. 1 with a home contest against Texas-San Antonio.
