Most Rev. Mulvey leads sacred prayer for Russia and Ukraine at Diocese of Corpus Christi
Together with Pope Francis in Rome, Corpus Christi's Most Rev. William Michael Mulvey and bishops prayed for peace in Ukraine Friday.
Mulvey, bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, said a special prayer sent by the Vatican to be read by bishops around the world for the consecration of Russia and Ukraine, appealing to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In Catholicism, consecration is the act of setting a person or object apart for God, making it sacred.
More than 600 Catholics gathered at Corpus Christi Cathedral to pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary and for peace in Europe and in the world, a news release from the diocese said.
The event brought priests, religious and faithful individuals from across the world in solidarity with Pope Francis who simultaneously asked God to respond to their prayers for peace in Europe, the news release said.
