Mooresville schools increase pay for district bus drivers for extra-curricular trips

MOORESVILLE — The Mooresville Consolidated School Corp. board of school trustees held its monthly school board meeting on Tuesday, July 12.

The board opened the meeting by recognizing the high school baseball, softball and track teams, presenting the students with plaques to honor their achievements in their latest seasons.

The board then moved onto its usual business matters, leading with its consent agenda.

Notable approvals from the agenda are a pay increase for bus drivers to $15 per hour for extra-curricular trips, up from $11.86 per hour. Additionally, an overnight field trip for the High School Girls' Cross Country Team to go to Brown County State Park in late July was also approved.

The regular pay for bus drivers will remain the same.

Cybersecurity Software

The meeting then turned to other matters needing approval. Most notably, a one-year contract for professional installation of cybersecurity software on the school system's technology. The contract will cost $86,486.

This action comes as Mooresville Schools alerts parents to what was called "a computer network disruption," which may have put sensitive information at risk. An investigation into the matter is ongoing. The board did not cite this incident as the reason for this cybersecurity approval.

Other Matters

The board granted approval, contingent on final terms, to a design-built contract with Performance Services, Inc. worth a maximum of $25.35 million for district-wide improvements in the 2022-23 school year.

Also approved by the board were the textbook rental policy, the student due process appeal policy, and the declaring of a long list of "broken or outdated" items as salvage.

The meeting ended with a new police officer for the MCSC being sworn in in front of the board.

The next monthly meeting of the Mooresville school board will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2022, at 11 W. Carlisle St.
