‘MJ’ Broadway musical announces nationwide online video casting call for young Michael Jackson

There was only one Michael Jackson — but an upcoming Broadway musical needs two.

The producers of Broadway’s forthcoming production of “MJ: The Michael Jackson Musical” are launching a nationwide online video search for an actor to play young Michael Jackson in the show.

According to an official casting notice, someone that looks 10-12 years old, with an “unchanged” singing voice, is being sought. The aspirant can be older or younger than 10 to audition but must have to be able to sing in young Michael’s range – which is no easy feat.

Applicants should make a video of the kid singing a Michael Jackson song, such as the Jackson 5 hits “Rockin’ Robin,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save” or his young solo offerings such as “I’ll Be There” and “Never Can Say Goodbye.”

In the video, the kid must say their name, age, height, where they’re from and how they heard about the opportunity.

For consideration, a link of the video clip should be sent via email to: audition@mjthemusical.com by Sept. 20.

According to a show rep, the person who chosen to play young Michael will be featured on iHeartRadio Broadway with an exclusive interview in addition to getting to portray “the greatest entertainer of all time.”

“MJ” features Jackson’s music, and a book written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage.

In June, newcomer Myles Frost was announced in the starring role of the King of Pop, who died in 2009. Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph the show that was initially set to open last summer but was shuttered due to the pandemic lockdown.

Performances begin on Dec. 6 at the Neil Simon Theater in New York City.
