MS all-time top scorer Josh Hubbard gets Ole Miss basketball NLI release after Kermit Davis departure
OXFORD — Ole Miss basketball signed the highest-rated recruiting class in school history in November, and, after Kermit Davis was let go Friday, that class is starting to come apart.
Josh Hubbard, who recently became Mississippi high school basketball's all-time leading scorer with 4,275 points, told On3 Sports on Tuesday that, in the wake of Davis' departure, he had received his release from the National Letter of Intent he signed to play for the Rebels. A National Letter of Intent is a binding agreement between an athlete and an institution that stipulates that the athlete will play for that school. It is common for players to be released from this agreement due to coaching changes.
"Due to the announcement of Coach Davis, I have received my release from Ole Miss and will inspect other options at this time," the Madison-Ridgeland Academy guard said. "I would like to thank Ole Miss and Coach Davis for recruiting me, and the Rebels will still be an option."

Hubbard is the No. 89 prospect in the Class of 2023, according to the 247Sports Composite, and the top player in Mississippi.
Center Rashaud Marshall, the No. 85 overall prospect in the cycle, announced Tuesday he has also received a release from his NLI.
The remaining two members of the class have yet to make public statements about their future.
