MPS, others close schools Thursday as storm approaches. Here's a list of Milwaukee area school closures.
The Milwaukee area will be under a winter storm warning for 12 hours on Thursday, as a winter storm approaches that could bring up to 10 inches of snow.
Most of southeastern Wisconsin is under the warning including Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Racine and Kenosha counties.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service expect 6 to 10 inches of snow, after initially remaining optimistic that the storm would miss the area. The winter storm watch was upgraded to a warning just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
A number of closures and cancellation have been announced Thursday. Here is a list of schools and other facilities that announced closures in the Milwaukee area:
Milwaukee Public Schools
Milwaukee Public Schools has decided to cancel classes and events on Thursday, making the announcement around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
"All schools and district offices are closed as well as all district after school, recreation and athletic programs and events," the district said in a statement.
Milwaukee suburbs
The following Milwaukee County suburban schools also have announced closures:
Wauwatosa
West Allis-West Milwaukee
Whitnall
Greenfield
Greendale
Franklin
Oak Creek
Brown Deer
Glendale-River Hills
Fox Point-Bayside
Shorewood
Cudahy
South Milwaukee
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee
All Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee will be closed.
Arrowhead High School
Arrowhead High School in Hartland will be closed and all cocurricular events are also canceled unless you hear differently from a coach or adviser.
Cedarburg School District
Due to the winter storm warning, all Cedarburg schools will be closed. All afternoon and evening activities, including community events, are also canceled.
Elmbrook Schools
Classes are canceled for Elmbrook schools, and all cocurricular events and parent-teacher conference are also canceled, this includes Brookfield Central and East high schools. Principals will communicate a plan to reschedule conferences.
Germantown School District
There will be no school or virtual learning for students or before or after-school activities on Thursday for the Germantown School District.
Grafton School District
All Grafton public schools won't open due to a prediction of one-half inches of snow per hour on Thursday afternoon.
Hartland/Lakeside School District
Due to inclement weather, Hartland/Lakeside schools will be closed.
Kenosha Unified School District
Schools in the Kenosha Unified School District will be closed. No students should not report, and before and after-school activities are canceled.
The Kenosha Senior Center also will be closed.
Lake Country School District
All classes at Lake Country School District have been canceled. Afternoon and evening activities are also canceled. School is scheduled to be closed on Friday and Monday, any conferences that are scheduled for Friday will be held.
Maravilla Montessori School
Maravilla Montessori School in Waukesha will be closed.
Marquette University
Marquette University canceled all classes – both in-person and virtual classes.
Some areas of campus will remain open, with limited on-campus services and hours might be reduced. These locations include Alumni Memorial Union, Facilities Planning and Management, Information Technology Services, Marquette University Police Department, Raynor Memorial Libraries, Rec Plex/Rec Plex Nest, and University Dining Services.
Menomonee Falls
Students in 4K through eighth grade will get the day off from school Thursday, but students at Menomonee Falls High School will have a virtual learning day.
Mequon-Thiensville School District
Homestead High School will be closed. Mequon-Thiensville 4K to eighth grade students already have a planned off day.
Mukwonago Area School District
Due to concerns of travel impacts near the end of the day, Mukwonago Area School District said all schools will be closed.
Muskego-Norway Schools
All Muskego-Norway Schools will be closed.
New Berlin
Due to unsafe afternoon road conditions, the School District of New Berlin won't hold classes. The district said the decision was made after conferring with the bus company.
North Lake School
North Lake School announced it will be closed for a snow day and no parent/teacher conferences will be held.
Oconomowoc Area School District
Due to heavy snow and hazardous travel condition, the Oconomowoc Area School District will be closed. This includes all after-school activities, clubs and sports.
Pewaukee School District
All schools will provide remote learning activities for students. Students at Asa Clark Middle School and Pewaukee High School are expected to attend school remotely as well and the school district said attendance will be taken.
The school district said it will make a decision on evening activities on Thursday.
Racine Unified School District
The Racine Unified School District will close all schools, and all after-school activities are also canceled.
Stone Bank School District
Stone Bank Schools will be closed Thursday through Monday, as Friday and Monday were planned off days. All activities, including field trips, athletics, clubs, and recreation activities are canceled on Thursday as well.
Waukesha School District
No school or extracurricular activities will take place for the Waukesha School District.
Whitefish Bay Public Schools
All Whitefish Bay Public Schools will be closed. All day and evening activities are also canceled.
