Michigan State women's basketball star Nia Clouden declares for WNBA draft
Nia Clouden is taking her talents to the next level.
The Michigan State senior guard announced Tuesday afternoon on her Twitter account that she plans to chase her dreams and enter the WNBA draft.
Clouden's announcement comes after a strong senior season where she earned first team all-Big Ten accolades while being one of the conference's top scorers. The Owings Mills, Maryland, native averaged 20.0 points, 4.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 30 games while helping the Spartans navigate a season plagued by numerous injuries to go 15-15.

The 5-foot-8 Clouden, who had the option to use her COVID-19 year and return to the program, finishes her MSU career as the second-leading scorer in program history with 1,882 points. She set the program single-game scoring record with a 50-point performance against Florida Gulf Coast in December.
"I think the one thing you fall in love with always is watching kids live their dreams and challenging themselves to be the best they can be," MSU coach Suzy Merchant said of Clouden during her senior day. "Watching Nia over four years continually get better and to always know that that dream of being a draft pick and playing in the WNBA is something that has been a dream of hers forever - to watch her put herself in position to be (drafted is great.)
"She'll be a first-round draft pick, there's no question about it. Where she goes? I don't know. Who she goes to? I don't know. I'm emotional about her, in particular, because what her position is is a dime a dozen. You've got to be exceptional to even get drafted. To watch her literally play her way into her dreams is really what coaching is about."
Clouden has a chance to be the first MSU women's basketball player taken in the WNBA draft since Tori Jankoska was selected ninth overall by the Chicago Sky in 2017. The WNBA draft will take place in April.
