Miami moviegoers relive their childhoods watching Barbie. Watch the pink-filled drama
It doesn’t matter where you stand on the Barbie phenomenon, the film’s inaugural weekend has been an resounding success —in Miami and beyond.
Hundreds of smiling mothers, daughters and friends dressed in pink Sunday to watch the film at Cinépolis movie theater in Coconut Grove. The luxury cinema, located at 3015 Grand Ave., had at least 21 showings scheduled for that day.
Others took it a step further and dressed like Barbies themselves, posing for photos within a pink frame as appearing to be life-sized dolls. Moviegoer Melissa Rodriguez posed as workout Barbie and Stacey Sequeira dressed as ‘60s Barbie.
How did Barbie do at the box office?
The film is estimated to have raked $155 million domestically over the weekend, giving it the largest opening weekend of 2023 and the biggest ever debut for a female director, CNN reported.
The PG-13 comedy collected an additional $182 million overseas, according to New York Times.
