Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have Named a Date For Their Split From Royal Life

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have named an official date on which they'll be starting their new life as non-senior members of the royal family.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told The Guardian they'll be ending their royal duties on March 31, and will announce details for their new non-profit organization later in the year.

Meghan and Harry announced their decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family back in January, writing at the time that they would "work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

While details remain scarce, the announcement of a date is one of the first pieces of official information we're getting on the process of their step back from their senior roles.

In a statement last month, the Queen said that she and the royal family were "entirely supportive" of Meghan and Harry's desire to create a new life as a young family.

"Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as family while remaining a valued part of my family," she said.
