Medway's Zack DiGregorio soaks in Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing
Zack DiGregorio had been looking forward to the moment for nearly a month.
After winning a race-off with two other US Luge teams on Jan. 7 to represent Team USA at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, DiGregorio arrived in Yanqing, China, on Jan. 27.
Eight days later, the 20-year-old from Medway finally participated in the moment he was waiting for: the Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
“The opening ceremonies are going to be pretty wild,” DiGregorio said in an earlier interview. “That’s what everyone says – that the opening ceremonies are something not to miss.”
Meet Medway's Zack DiGregorio: He'll compete for US Luge team in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics
DiGregorio attended with teammates and fellow Olympians at Beijing National Stadium.
During the festivities featured on NBC early Friday morning (and will rebroadcast from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST), DiGregorio watched the traditional lighting of the cauldron and the parade of nations.
He even snapped a selfie on his cell phone with US Olympian and snowboarder Shaun White.
“I told him last night that if he didn't get a photo with Shaun White he couldn't come home,” DiGregorio’s mother, Krista, wrote in a text. “Lol.”
