McDonald's makes plans to reopen dining rooms, but with new rules

McDonald's is placing new safety measures as it prepares to reopen dining rooms. Yahoo Finance's Alexis Christoforous and Brian Sozzi break down the details.

BRIAN SOZZI: Let's take a look at one of the companies we're watching on YahooFinance.com today. McDonald's unveiled additional safety plans to protect its crew members and customers. This includes crew members wearing masks, social-distancing signs, food delivery to tables for dining in, and doubling down on sanitation.

Alexis, in addition to this, those dirty McDonald's ball pits are going to stay closed. And you know what? I say good.

ALEXIS CHRISTOFOROUS: Yeah, I'm with you on that. I have three kids. They're out of the ball-pit stage, thankfully. I was never into those things, you know, a ball pit of germs, but I am happy to see those are going to be closed.

But there are a bunch of other new procedures and guidelines McDonald's is putting in place to hopefully have customers feel comfortable dining in, something none of us have been able to do now for months.

So they're going to close some seating and tables. That's to accommodate social distancing. They're also going to bring you your food. No more waiting there in line to get your food on a tray. A server is going to come in a double bag and bring your food to your table at McDonald's. They're also all going to be wearing masks and gloves, the people who work there. They might hand out masks for you, the customer.

And like you said, they're going to be keeping those Play Places closed. And we'll see if people have an appetite for dining in at McDonald's because for most of the country there is a drive-through experience, and we'll just see if they continue to opt to do that.

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah. One thing is abundantly clear, Alexis. We've talked to enough of these fast-food executives the past two months. The dining-in experience will be changed for some time if not forever.
