“Naruto” manga creator Masashi Kishimoto will write and illustrate an original short manga featuring the fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze.

The Yellow Flash of the Hidden Leaf Village won a worldwide character popularity poll, "Narutop 99," in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the "Naruto" franchise. The results were announced on the franchise's official YouTube channel on Thursday.

The poll, which ran from Dec. 21, 2022, to Jan. 31, received an estimated 4.6 million votes from fans, who were able to place one vote every day for their favorite character on the Narutop 99 website. Minato emerged as the winner of the poll with 792,257 votes.

Kishimoto also drew a visual featuring the top 22 characters, including Taijutsu master Might Guy and the nine-tailed fox, Kurama.

He teased that the manga would be a story behind Minato’s jutsu, which could be anything from his teleportation technique — the Flying Raijin Jutsu — his signature Rasengan or something never before seen.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the “Naruto” anime, four new episodes will air in September. Studio Pierrot also released a "Road of Naruto" video that condenses 20 years of Naruto anime history into 10 minutes featuring brand new animation footage.

The “Naruto” franchise continues with the “Boruto” sequel manga, which was launched by Mikie Ikemoto and Ukyō Kodachi in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2016.
