Martin County Fire Rescue ambulance rolls over; road closed

MARTIN COUNTY − A portion of Bridge Road was closed Tuesday following a rollover crash involving a Martin County Fire Rescue ambulance with a patient on board, according to Martin County sheriff's and rescue spokespersons.

Sheriff’s officials were called at 11:52 a.m. Tuesday to Bridge Road in the area of Interstate 95, said Laurie Weber, sheriff’s spokesperson. She said Southwest Bridge Road was closed at Pratt Whitney Road after the crash.

“It was a single vehicle crash involving one of our rescue vehicles,” said Cory Pippin, Martin fire rescue spokesperson. “The ambulance went off the road and rolled … the ambulance was transporting a patient at the time.”

Pippin said the ambulance, identified as Rescue 22 based at a Tropical Farms station, was heading east at the time of the crash with the patient en route to Jupiter Medical Center. The patient was being taken there with minor injuries, he said. This individual was taken to a hospital after the ambulance crash, Pippin said.

Pippin said two of three Martin fire rescue crew members on the ambulance sustained non life-threatening injuries. They, too, were taken to a hospital.

No other information was immediately available.
