Blue Origin pushes back first launch of giant New Glenn rocket
Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin will have to wait a little longer for the long-anticipated maiden orbital flight of its brand-new rocket after a launch attempt dragged on for hours before being canceled due to unspecified technical issues."We are standing down today's launch attempt to troubleshoot a vehicle subsystem issue that will take us beyond our launch window," said Ariane Cornell, a Blue Origin executive, during a livestream watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Jeff Bezos' space company calls off debut launch of massive new rocket in final minutes of countdown
The 320-foot (98-meter) New Glenn rocket was supposed to blast off before dawn with a prototype satellite from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Once the countdown clock was halted, they immediately began draining all the fuel from the rocket. Blue Origin did not immediately set a new launch date, saying the team needed more time to resolve the problem.

India’s prime minister marked Monday the opening of a tunnel in the northeast of disputed Kashmir that will grant all-year accessibility to a town that is isolated by heavy snow each winter. Taiwan's intelligence bureau says China’s main spy agency is working with criminal gangs, shell companies and other dubious partners to gain intelligence on Taiwan’s defenses, resulting in a major rise in those arrested for alleged espionage on the island. Current and retired Taiwanese military personnel are a special concern, accounting for around half of the 64 alleged spies put on trial last year, it said. The arrests are in line with China's stepped-up campaign of military intimidation, economic coercion and “gray area” tactics such as utilizing the internet to promote unification and providing all-expense-paid trips to China to low-level government officials.

U.S. and Arab mediators made significant progress overnight toward brokering a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and the release of scores of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, but a deal has not been reached yet, officials said Monday. One of the three officials and a Hamas official said there were still a number of hurdles to clear. On several occasions over the past year, U.S. officials have said they were on the verge of reaching a deal, only to have the talks stall.

Hydro buys remaining shares in Hydrovolt from Northvolt
Norway's Hydro said on Monday it has agreed to buy the remaining shares in battery recycler Hydrovolt from Swedish electric-vehicle battery maker Northvolt for 78 million Norwegian crowns ($6.79 million). Hydro said in a statement it would through the deal raise its stake in Hydrovolt to 100% from 72%. Hydro said in October it had raised its stake in Hydrovolt, a joint venture partner Northvolt, which is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. since November.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to have a call in the coming days or weeks, and it is unrealistic to aim to expel Russian soldiers from every inch of Ukrainian territory, a top Trump adviser said.
