Majority of Americans have not taken a summer vacation this year: RPT

Yahoo Finance's Kristin Myers and Sibile Marcellus discuss why the majority of Americans have not taken a summer vacation this year, according to ValuePenguin.

KRISTIN MYERS: How many of you at home have taken a summer vacation? If you haven't, you are not alone. Most Americans did not. So for more on this story, we're joined now by Sibile Marcellus. Hey, Sibile.

SIBILE MARCELLUS: As many as 72% of Americans did not take a summer vacation this year. And this is because many were worried about furloughs and layoffs and some even feeling guilty about asking for time off since so many workers were working from home during this ongoing pandemic.

And among those that actually did go on vacation-- so 72% did not, but the few that did, most of them-- 71% of them-- chose road trips. They were reluctant to get on a plane and go somewhere. So we're really seeing the impacts of the pandemic here.

There are even some Americans who went as far as to take zero time off this summer-- 44%. And an additional 22% that did take time off took less than they normally would if it wasn't the era of the coronavirus pandemic that's been so disruptive that we are all dealing with right now.
