Loyola Flyers capture LHSAA Division III girls soccer title
Another stellar season for the Loyola girls soccer team ended in spectacular fashion in Southeastern Louisiana’s Strawberry Stadium in Hammond Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Archbishop Hannan in the LHSAA Division III championship game.
The Flyers (15-5-4) have been in either the Division III or Division IV title game five of the last six years winning the 2019 Division IV title with a 3-0 victory over Episcopal of Acadiana. Their magic continued against the No. 5 seeded Lady Hawks (15-6-3), who had no answer for seniors Kennedy Jarrett and Erin Campbell, along with sophomore Mary Helen Burford.
With 16 minutes remaining in the first half, Hannan took a 1-0 lead off a corner kick goal by junior Logan Foster, as they controlled much of the first half.
Burford tied it up early in the second half with Jarrett and Campbell following suit. Junior Madalyn VanDevender capped the scoring for the Flyers.
The win put a cap on the career of 10 Loyola seniors, including LHSCA All-Stars Jarrett and Campbell. Jarrett ends her career with 102 goals.
