A Look Back at Victor Skrebneski's Iconic Photographs for Town & Country

Legendary fashion photographer Victor Skrebneski, known for his black-and-white celebrity and advertising photography, died at the age of 90 on April 4 in Chicago. Skrebneski's big break came in 1962 as the exclusive photographer for Estée Lauder's ad campaign "the Estée Lauder woman.” He later helped launch Cindy Crawford's career and photographed Iman, David Bowie, Orson Welles, Bette Davis, Ralph Lauren, and more.

Skrebneski also worked for Town & Country for two decades, from the late 1970s to 1990s. He once said in an interview that then editor-in-chief Frank Zachary "let me do whatever I wanted." Here, we take a look back at Skrebneski's work for T&C through the years.

Skrebneski's first story for T&C was about "Colossal Chicago." He photographed Deborah Larson in a fashion story set in the industrial spaces of America's second city.

A few years later, Skrebneski photographed fashion designer Countess Jacqueline de Ribes in her Paris hôtel particulier.

Skrebneski shot many jewelry stories for T&C, like this one from 1986 featuring nightgowns and jewelry. Both models wear Chaumet.

Skrebneski also did many fashion stories for T&C, like this one from 1991 on American couture. The model wears Beene.

Skrebneski also worked with many of the world's most notable figures, like Ralph Lauren. Skrebneski photographed him at his home in Round Hill Jamaica for our March 1992 issue.

And again four years later with his wife Ricky at their home in Bedford, New York.
