Little Chute moves up high school football rankings; Kimberly, Freedom still on top
Here's the fifth edition of the Post-Crescent high school football rankings, separated in large and small school divisions. Teams are ranked on a "pound-for-pound" basis where the team's success is measured in relation to enrollment size.
Large schools (Divisions 1-3)
1. Kimberly (5-0): Papermakers seniors Ethan Criter (15 catches, 307 yards, four touchdowns) and Jaxson Garbisch (16-261-3) are the team's top two receivers. Next: Friday vs. Oshkosh West.
2. Neenah (5-0): Trevor McGinnis (38 total tackles, two sacks), Darius Jones Jr. (35 tackles, three for loss) and Luke Jung (32 tackles, three for loss) spearhead a solid Rockets defense that was pivotal in the team's 21-10 victory over Appleton North. Next: Friday at Oshkosh North.

3. Fox Valley Lutheran (5-0): Foxes stay in three-way tie atop North Eastern Conference with Freedom and Little Chute. Jack Egan leads the team in rushing (325 yards, 7 touchdowns). Next: Friday vs. Little Chute.
4. Menasha (4-1): Bluejays can't look past Sheboygan South this week with Fox River Classic Conference-South showdown with Green Bay Notre Dame on Sept. 30. Next: Friday vs. Sheboygan South.
5. Appleton North (3-2): Lightning on two-game losing streak and have matchup this week against scrappy Appleton East squad that has been competitive in most games. Next: Friday vs. Appleton East.
Also: Kaukauna (3-2).
Small schools (Divisions 4-7)
1. Freedom (5-0): Big first half lifts Irish to 42-7 victory over Wrightstown last week. Senior quarterback Matt Wyngaard has given team a potent passing game with 661 yards and 12 touchdowns. Next: Friday at Luxemburg-Casco.
2. Little Chute (5-0): Mustangs get big win over Luxemburg-Casco last week and move up a spot in the rankings after Wrightstown's loss to Freedom. Next: Friday at Fox Valley Lutheran.
3. Wrightstown (4-1): Tigers have important three-game stretch upcoming with games against Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran and Little Chute. Next: Friday vs. Denmark.
4. Weyauwega-Fremont (4-1): Shiocton hands Warhawks first loss last week, 21-0. Team's next three games are against Amherst, Stratford and Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Next: Friday vs. Amherst.
5. St. Mary Catholic (4-0, 8-player): Zephyrs have potent passing attack, but don't forget about the team's run game led by junior Ashton Post (61 carries, 508 yards, nine touchdowns). Next: Friday vs. Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.
