Lipscomb Academy football shocks 3-time defending Alabama 7A state champion Thompson
Lipscomb Academy won its biggest football game in school history.
And the Mustangs did it on national television.
Lipscomb Academy defeated three-time defending Class 7A state champion Thompson 24-14 Saturday night in Alabaster, Alabama, in a nonregion game televised on ESPN.
Lipscomb trailed 14-0 before the Mustangs (2-0) scored 24 unanswered points. That included a pair of defensive scores: Bryan Longwell returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter and four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley picked up a fumble in the end zone and ran it down the Lipscomb sidelines to take a 10-point lead with 5:36 left.

The defensive scores were just what Lipscomb needed against Thompson (0-2). The Warriors stymied the Mustang offense in the first half, taking a 14-3 halftime lead.
Thompson's Zach Sims threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Korbyn Williams with 5:54 left in the first quarter. Then Sims scored a 1-yard TD run with 10:37 left in the second quarter. The Mustangs trimmed it to 14-3 on Luke Jeans 33-yard field goal with 6:50 left in the half.
