What is that line of bright lights in the night sky over Beaufort County?

Sinatra had it right when he crooned, “let me play among the stars” and Elon Musk’s team of scientists are doing just that.

Some Beaufort County residents may have noticed a line of bright lights in the night sky. It’s not a constellation of stars, but one of recently launched satellites from an ambitious global connectivity project.

Musk founded SpaceX and created Starlink as a system of low-orbit satellites with the goal of bringing broadband internet to anyone across the world, regardless of how remote.

The line of stars that Beaufort County residents are reporting seeing are the most recently launched satellites. While they launch in a line they will eventually split up and join the other satellites in the growing network.

Currently, SpaceX has launched over 4,000 satellites, launching as many as 240 in one month, according to their website.

Over the next few days, the line of satellites may be visible in Beaufort County, according to findstarlink.com. Cloud cover and other atmospheric conditions may hamper visibility but on clear evenings locals may be able to see some human-built celestial bodies among the stars.
