Lawmakers in negotiations as deadline for eviction moratorium looms

The pressure is now on lawmakers to come up with new protections for millions of California renters facing eviction, and landlords struggling to pay their mortgages. The Judicial Council of California voted Thursday to end two emergency moratoriums on evictions and foreclosures on September 1, sharing in a statement, "The judicial branch cannot usurp the responsibility of the other two branches on a long-term basis to deal with the myriad impacts of the pandemic."
