Lathan Ransom rises; Who played the most snaps in Ohio State football’s win over Notre Dame
Josh Proctor was Ohio State’s starting strong safety when it opened its season against Notre Dame.
Throughout the Irish’s opening drive, Proctor lined up in the secondary, but he was replaced by Lathan Ransom on later series.
Ransom, a junior who overcame a leg fracture in the Rose Bowl to be at full strength for the start of this season, played 46 out of a possible 50 snaps in Saturday's 21-10 win, according to tracking by Pro Football Focus, while Proctor saw only five snaps.

“Lathan seemed hot,” defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said. “We like to have guys game ready. We felt he was game-ready, and when a guy is game-ready and he gets a shot, then you start playing the hot hand. You go with what works, and that’s what we did with Lathan.”
The increased role of Ransom was one of the biggest takeaways from peering at the Buckeyes’ snap counts following Week 1. Using PFF’s data, a breakdown of both sides of the ball is below.
