Lampasas high school girls basketball coach Mark Myers on administrative leave from school

Lampasas girls basketball coach Mark Myers is on administrative leave from the school while an investigation into improper “communications” with a student continues, district Superintendent Chane Rascoe said Wednesday.

Myers was placed on leave Monday.

“Right now, it’s a noncriminal investigation,” Rascoe said. “We have reported everything to TEA (the Texas Education Agency) as we are required to do, and we have involved the Police Department. So far there have been no charges placed. That is where we are right now.”

Rascoe declined to give further details on the allegations against Myers, who has been at Lampasas since 2017. He has more than 900 victories in his head coaching career.

Myers did not return phone and text messages from the American-Statesman seeking comment on the allegations Thursday.

The Badgers are 22-9 this season with a 2-1 record in District 24-4A. The team is being led by Macey Seigert, one of Myers' assistant coaches. Myers has missed the team's last two games.

Myers has had many stops during his career, which began at Waco Vanguard in 1983 after he graduated from Baylor. He also has coached at Bremond, Sweeny and Cedar Park. He resigned from Cedar Park in 2016, citing “constant stress” on the job. He became coach at Lampasas a year later.
