South African leader spoke to Elon Musk about misinformation after Trump attack
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to Elon Musk on the subject of misinformation about South Africa, the presidency said on Tuesday, after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would suspend aid to the country over its land reform policy. Trump on Sunday accused South Africa of confiscating land and badly treating "certain classes of people". Ramaphosa responded on Monday that the government had not confiscated any land and the policy was aimed at ensuring equitable public access to land.

Donald Trump Jr. accused of illegal duck hunting near Venice
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, broke Italian and European Union environmental protection laws when he hunted ducks near Venice in December, according to two Italian Green party lawmakers. Andrea Zanoni, a member of the Veneto regional assembly, and Luana Zanella, a national parliamentarian, have filed two separate parliamentary questions urging regional and national authorities to take action against the alleged offence. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Zanoni said he had seen footage of Trump Jr. hunting in a "Natura 2000" EU conservation zone in the Venice lagoon, standing near a dead ruddy shelduck, a protected species.

Australia bans DeepSeek on government devices citing security concerns
Australia has banned DeepSeek from all government devices over concerns that the Chinese artificial intelligence startup poses security risks, the government said on Tuesday. The Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs issued a mandatory direction for all government entities to "prevent the use or installation of DeepSeek products, applications and web services and where found remove all existing instances of DeepSeek products, applications and web services from all Australian Government systems and devices," the statement said. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said DeepSeek posed an "unacceptable risk" to government technology and the immediate ban was “to protect Australia’s national security and national interest,” several Australian media outlets reported on Tuesday evening.

Five people were shot at an adult education center in Sweden on Tuesday, police said. The Swedish news agency TT reported, without providing its sources, that the perpetrator died by suicide. The adult education center is in the city of Orebro, which is located about 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Stockholm.

Lawyers for British nurse Lucy Letby on Tuesday launched a new bid to overthrow her conviction for killing seven babies, after a group of international medical experts who reexamined evidence used at her trial concluded none had actually been murdered. Letby was convicted of killing the newborns and attempting to murder eight more between June 2015 and June 2016 while working in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, northern England. Letby, 35, has maintained her innocence throughout but has been refused permission to appeal against her convictions.
