Kyle Filipowski suffers cut under left eye in Duke's March Madness game against Tennessee

Tennessee and Duke started Saturday's second round NCAA Tournament game with some physical play, and it only continued.

Kyle Filipowski caught the worst of the physical play in the first six minutes, catching an elbow from Jonas Aidoo while jostling for a rebound. The Duke freshman forward had a cut under his left eye that required several minutes of treatment to get cleaned up.

He left the game for a few moments, then returned about 90 seconds of game time later.

Filipowski has been the Blue Devils' best player this season, averaging 15.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. He had an underwhelming statistical NCAA Tournament debut against Oral Roberts on Thursday, with six points, nine rebounds and four steals. His most-seen highlight may have been when he was getting sick during the game near Duke's bench. But the Blue Devils held a large lead for virtually all of the game in a 74-51 win.

Duke and Tennessee were playing with bodies flying in the first six minutes, with Filipowski dropping to the floor in the first 90 seconds after Uros Plavsic shook him off while grabbing a rebound. And in the same sequence as Filipowski's cut, Tennessee's Santiago Vescovi was called for an offensive foul when he contacted Tyrese Proctor in the face with the ball in his hands while crossing over.

A good thing for the winner of this game may be that the next game is five days away.
