Jameson Williams' injury changes the game for Alabama's offense
Alabama's offense, already without receiver John Metchie III, lost its best offensive weapon when Jameson Williams left the game with a knee injury following a 40-yard catch in the second quarter. Williams' left knee buckled when trying to cut at the end of the play. Alabama would have to lean on Traeshon Holden and Ja'Corey Brooks, among other young and inexperienced options, as outside receivers for the rest of the game.
Georgia matches Alabama's first TD to go ahead
Alabama took the lead after a controversial fumble recovery eventually resulted in a Cameron Latu touchdown catch, but Georgia struck back quickly. A four-play, 75-yard drive ended in a 40-yard touchdown catch by Georgia receiver Adonai Mitchell from Stetson Bennett, and the Bulldogs took the lead they would never relinquish.
Brock Bowers TD catch puts UGA up 8
Georgia got a stop with about seven minutes left in regulation, and the Bulldogs running game went to work. Georgia gained 23 yards on four carries, and a Kool-Aid McKinstry pass interference penalty gave Georgia the ball in scoring range. After two more carries, a 3rd-and-1 flare out pass from Bennett to freshman tight end Brock Bowers resulted in a 17-yard touchdown and a 25-18 Georgia lead with under four minutes to play.
Georgia's defense gets the title-winning stop
Alabama's final drive of consequence ended in Georgia territory on a poorly thrown interception to Georgia's Kelee Ringo, who sprinted for a 79-yard return touchdown. The Bulldogs, for the first time since 1980, are national champions.
