Kentucky’s All-State baseball teams include eight Lexington players
Christian County’s Elijah Underhill has been named the 2023 Mr. Baseball by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association as the group also announced its all-state teams on Sunday.
Underhill, a senior right-hander signed with Eastern Kentucky University, played outfield in addition to his pitching duties for Christian County. On the mound, he was among the state leaders in strikeouts (115) and innings pitched (66) while going 6-4 with a 2.65 ERA and one save for the 2nd Region runners-up. He led the Colonels with a .430 batting average and was among the state leaders in homers (eight), runs (54) and stolen bases (34).
Joining Underhill on the all-state first team were four players from Lexington: Sayre’s Addison Stockham, Frederick Douglass’s Thomas Howard and Lexington Catholic’s Griffin Cameron and Owen Jenkins. Jenkins was recently named Lexington player of the year by the city’s nine coaches.
Also included on the KHSBCA all-state first team was Mercer County’s Evan Hart, a University of Kentucky signee who was recently named Kentucky Gatorade player of the year.
