Kent State men's basketball rolls to win at Western Michigan, stays tied for MAC lead
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Led by VonCameron Davis, Kent State men's basketball maintained its spot atop the Mid-American Conference by beating Western Michigan 82-58 on Tuesday night.
Davis scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Golden Flashes (21-5, 11-2 MAC). KSU is tied with Toledo for first in the MAC, with Akron and Ball State each sitting one game back. Since their loss to Akron, the Flashes have won three straight by an average of 16 points.
The KSU bench came up big Tuesday. Julius Rollins totaled 12 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench, while Chris Payton had 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes off the bench. Starting guard Malique Jacobs contributed 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.
The Flashes outscored the Broncos 42-22 in the paint. They also forced 20 turnovers and limited WMU to 42.9% shooting.
Lamar Norman Jr. finished with 17 points for the Broncos (6-20, 2-11). Tray Maddox Jr. added 10 points for Western Michigan. In addition, Seth Hubbard had nine points. The loss was the Broncos' ninth in a row.
Kent State returns to action Friday at home against Eastern Michigan at 6.
