Kent City Schools Special Olympians celebrate end of season with picnic
The Kent City Schools Special Olympics Track and Field squad recently came together for an outdoor picnic which coincided with their final practice of the season leading up to the Special Olympics State Meet in Columbus the weekend of June 24-26.
The team had much to celebrate as one of their own, Brendan Casey, recently returned from the National Special Olympics Meet, which was held in Orlando, Fla. Brendan brought home the gold in his swimming event.
Chrissy Motz, an athlete and fundraiser, joined Brendan in Orlando as she was the leading fundraiser for Special Olympics in Ohio. Chrissy raised $5,800 for the team, an amount similar to her previous years of fundraising for Special Olympics.
The team thanks coach Linda Ferlito, the volunteer assistants, parents and caregivers of our athletes. Without them, this very special team would not be possible. Kent City Schools is proud of this team and all of their accomplishments as well as their perseverance.
