Jessica Simpson reflected on being pitted against Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera as young artists

Back in the days of TRL, millennials know that it was the pop princesses who reigned supreme. Unfortunately, though, plenty of young women artists at the time were often unfairly pitted against each other—largely by the media and record execs drumming up pretend rivalries and feuds. Now Jessica Simpson is reflecting on those fabricated rivalries, and she’s sending her love specifically to fellow pop stars Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Simpson talked about her experiences with Spears and Aguilera, both then and now, two decades later. Unlike the rumors, it seems like the new memoirist has nothing but love and support for her fellow singers.

“We grew up in a very competitive environment when it came to our record labels and being pushed to do things that were unnecessary for success,” she said.

Simpson is over the comparisons being pit against each other. Instead, she’s ready to celebrate each artist’s unique careers and stories.

“I think everybody’s careers have their own unique stories, and I love that Britney owns herself, Christina owns herself, and they don’t let the world control them,” she said.

Sharing a clear message of empowerment, she said, “There’s so much room at the top!”

While she didn’t seem to hint that she’d be joining Spears and Aguilera in a Las Vegas residency anytime soon (bummer!) we totally agree that there’s plenty of room for all of them at the top, and they’re all so talented in their own ways. Our Walkmans may be long gone, but our favorite pop stars of the late ’90s and early aughts are forever.
