Jerry Stackhouse: UNC basketball ready to 'kick their butt' and 'may be' blood vs. Duke

Vanderbilt men's basketball coach and former North Carolina men's basketball player Jerry Stackhouse appeared on the TBS Final Four pregame show Saturday along with Greg Gumbel, Seth Davis, and Arizona State head coach/former Duke player Bobby Hurley.

Stackhouse had some bold statements about the North Carolina vs. Duke matchup in the Final Four on Saturday night.

In a conversation about North Carolina beating Duke in Durham during the regular season finale for both teams, Stackhouse talked about that game's impact on the Tar Heels going into the postseason.

"You want to play your best basketball this time of the year," Stackhouse said. "Just because you have one hiccup in the middle of the road, especially at home, it did kind of propel them to come out and play some inspired basketball these last few games. Again, it should be a great contest tonight. I'm excited about it, and I can't wait to get with my UNC brothers."

Davis then said, "When you say great contest, why don't you just say what you're really feeling?"

"We're ready to kick their butt," Stackhouse said. "You know what I'm saying?"

A few minutes later, Gumbel asked Stackhouse a question. Gumbel asked, "You expect a spirited contest tonight? Would that be the right word?"

"There may be a little blood out there," Stackhouse said. "I don't know. They've been showing a lot of highlights of that. It should happen again."

"That passes for spirited," Gumbel said.

"You wouldn't have a pulse if you weren't really enthusiastic and going all in for tonight's game," Hurley said in response to Gumbel's question about a spirited game.

Stackhouse played at UNC from 1993-95. Hurley played at Duke from 1989-93.

No. 2-seeded Duke enters the matchup 32-6 overall. Most recently, Duke defeated Arkansas 78-69 on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.

No. 8 seed North Carolina comes into the game 28-9 overall. On Sunday, UNC beat St. Peter's 69-49 in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.

The winner advances to face either Kansas or Villanova in the NCAA Tournament national championship game on Monday.

In their earlier meetings this season, Duke beat North Carolina 87-67 on Feb. 5 in Chapel Hill, and North Carolina beat Duke 94-81 on March 5 in Durham.
