Jenna Fischer finally told us what was in the teapot that Jim bought for Pam on The Office

Remember way back in Season 2 of The Office when Jim (John Krasinski) gifted Pam (Jenna Fischer) a teapot during the Dunder Mifflin Secret Santa party? And remember how Jim stuffed the teapot full of inside jokes and attached a personal card, because “Christmas is the time to tell people how you feel?” But then remember how he ended up taking the card back because of Roy, only to present the card to Pam several years later during the final season of The Office?

Well, we certainly remember. And we’ve always wanted to know what exactly that card said. And Jenna Fischer just enlightened us (a bit).

“I’m the only one who knows, and John knows,” Fischer disclosed regarding the contents of the note on the most recent episode of The Office Ladies podcast, which she hosts with former Office costar/BFF Angela Kinsey. John, of course, is John Krasinski.

According to Fischer, showrunner Greg Daniels told Krasinski to write Fischer a personal message on the card before giving it to her during that emotional Season 9 episode. Not a note from Jim to Pam, but a note from John to Jenna.

Filming Season 9 (the final season of The Office) was already an emotional time for the cast and crew, and on the podcast, Fischer got choked up about reading the note Krasinski gave her. “That was [John’s] goodbye,” she said of the card, likening it to the scene in which Pam says goodbye to Michael Scott (Steve Carell) at the airport. Paul Feig had told Fischer to “run up and say goodbye to your friend Steve,” which made the scene tearjerking for everyone involved.

Fischer said that Pam’s line after she opens the teapot was, “I’ll never say what it said, but just know it was perfect,” and Fischer will hold true to this line.

“I’ll never say what John wrote, but I will say, just know it was perfect,” she said.

Now we’re the ones who are bawling.
