Jamie Paul & Leif Shires to perform at Columbia State as concert series comes to a close

Columbia State Community College will welcome Jaimee Paul & Leif Shires to the Cherry Theater on April 7 for the final show of the 2021-22 season of the First Farmers Performance Series.

“We are closing out the 2021-22 First Farmers Performance Series in a big way with Jaimee Paul and Leif Shires – you won’t want to miss it,” said Bethany Lay, Columbia State vice president for advancement and executive director of the Columbia State Foundation in a press release.

Paul and Shires are internationally acclaimed artists who make old songs shine, making legendary music reach today’s music lover.

Paul began as a first-call studio singer, singing live as backing vocalist for the likes of Wynonna Judd and Kelly Clarkson.

Shires' career has flourished, working with artists as varied as Clarkson, Jack White, Shania Twain, Barry Gibb and Wanda Jackson, as well as being part of the most influential horn section in music history, The Memphis Horns.

Paul and Shires recontextualize classic songs for a new generation of music enthusiasts.

“Their talents translate legendary music into new sounds. We want to see you there,” Lay said.

This year marks the 19th annual First Farmers Performance Series, continuing a long-running tradition for Columbia State previously postponed due to coronavirus.

Past seasons have featured celebrated artists from across the country and around the world.

Individual tickets are on sale for $30 each plus tax for adults and $20 each plus tax for students. To charge tickets by phone using a major credit card, call (931)540-2879 or purchase them in person in Room 113 of the Pryor Administration Building on the Columbia Campus, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On the night of the performance, the box office opens at 6 p.m. in the Kenneth and Ramona Cherry Theater, located in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus. Theater doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show begins at 7 p.m.

The Columbia campus is located at 1665 Hampshire Pike in Columbia.
