Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor is given key to hometown of Magnolia

Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor was given a key to his hometown Magnolia on Wednesday, bestowing an honor on the South Pike High graduate near the Mississippi-Louisiana border.

Taylor was promoted to replace Deion Sanders as JSU's coach on Feb 1.

Before being promoted, Taylor was an offensive assistant on JSU staff since 2019. He has coached tight ends, receivers and been the offensive coordinator. During his time working with offense, the Tigers went 22-3 over the past two seasons, including consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference championships.

A former wide receiver at JSU, Taylor played in 19 games and amassed 188 catches for 1,793 yards. In his senior season in 2001, Taylor broke the JSU single-season record with 84 receptions for 1,234 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning NCAA Division I-AA Third-Team All-America honors from The Sports Network and First-Team Black College All-America recognition from Sheridan Broadcasting Network.
