IRS: 25 million payments sent in latest round of stimulus

Yahoo Finance's Denitsa Tsekova breaks down the latest round of stimulus checks.

ALEXIS CHRISTOFOROUS: The IRS has disbursed more than 25 million more stimulus checks this week, including those to Social Security recipients who did not file their taxes for the past two years. Yahoo Finance's Denitsa Tsekova is here now with these details. And definitely good news for folks who are waiting for those checks.

DENITSA TSEKOVA: For sure. Good news for the people waiting for the checks [INAUDIBLE] for everyone receiving checks. We have 156 million payments being distributed so far as part of the third round of stimulus checks. These are around $372 billion. So from the overall money that's allocated for stimulus checks, we've already disbursed around 83%.

So we're almost done with the distribution of the third round of stimulus checks. As you said, the third-- the fourth batch of payments were sent today. This is mostly Social Security recipients. So around 19 million payments were sent to Social Security recipients, who saw a significant delay in getting their payments because the IRS didn't have the information initially.

Additionally, 3 million payments are sent to Supplemental Security Income recipients, as well as 85,000 to Railroad Retirement Board recipients. And as I said, there was a significant delay for some of those federal benefits recipients. And we still see a significant delay for veterans and Veteran Affairs recipients. And they will probably see their payments in the next few weeks. But the IRS is still working on that. That fourth batch of payments also includes Plus Up payments, so people may be getting an extra check this week. This is mostly people who saw a change in their income in 2020 compared to 2019.
