Iowa State women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly to miss Wednesday's game following his mother's death

AMES - When the Iowa State women’s basketball team takes the floor Wednesday night, the Cyclones will be without their coach.

Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly will miss the 17th-ranked Cyclones’ game against Oklahoma State at Hilton Coliseum after attending the funeral of his mother, Carol Fennelly.

Carol Fennelly, who lived in Davenport, died Sunday. She was 85. Her funeral was Wednesday in Davenport.

Iowa State (11-4 on the season and 3-2 in Big 12 Conference play) is slated to host Oklahoma State (13-4 overall, 3-2 in Big 12) at Hilton Coliseum at 6:30 p.m.

Associate coach Jodi Steyer, a longtime member of Fennelly's staff, will serve as the acting head coach during Wednesday's game. Steyer also filled in for Fennelly in 2020 when the head coach was in self-quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
