Indiana University students welcomed back to campus, Bloomington
Indiana University expected more than 7,500 students to move in Sunday, Monday and Tuesday ahead of the impending fall semester. After a quiet term over the summer, the IU campus will be aglow with fresh and familiar faces again for the start of the 2022-2023 academic year.
This Wednesday marks the start of welcome week, a long-held university slate of activities designed to help new students feel more comfortable around the campus as well as introduce them to potential new friends.
On Wednesday, the Freshman Induction Ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. This ceremony serves to introduce the entering class to their new community. IU President Pamela Whitten, Provost Rahul Shrivastav and Kyle Siebert, president of IU Student Government, will speak. Attendees also will hear the IU alma mater, “Hail to Old IU.” Family members are welcomed to attend the in-person ceremony or watch it via livestream. Because last year's ceremony was held online, second-year students are welcome to attend this year as well.
On Thursday, CultureFest will be in the Fine Arts Plaza from 4 to 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to meet other new faces, enjoy live performances and connect with IU Culture Centers. Food trucks will be stationed there for attendees to buy concessions.
On Friday, the Office of First Year Experience Programs and IU Athletics will host the Traditions and Spirit of IU at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. This is where people can learn IU cheers of the past and present as well as connect with university coaches. There will also be a series of prize giveaways.
Fall classes are scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 22.
