Incyte opens new building with plans for Wilmington Friends campus in the works

Employees moved into a new building at Incyte's Augustine Cut-Off headquarters last week, according to company spokesperson Catalina Loveman.

The expansion adds almost 200,000 square feet of office and lab space to the west of the existing buildings on the Incyte campus. The pharmaceutical maker started the campus in 2014 when it took over the former John Wanamaker building and three years later opened an adjacent office building.

Incyte designed the new building, next to which it also built a parking garage, with the intent of moving all of its employees to the Augustine Cut-Off headquarters. Some of the company's employees worked in leased spaces in Wilmington and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.

After receiving approval for the project in 2019, Incyte also purchased 20 acres of the Wilmington Friends School campus for further expansion. Loveman said the company intends to soon submit exploratory plans for the next expansion to New Castle County for review.

A pre-application sketch plan submitted to the county in 2020 shows three proposed office buildings totaling about 85,000 square feet and a 905-space parking garage.

Once approved, Incyte estimates construction of the expansion on the Friends campus will take 12 to 18 months.
