Ikea Just Revealed the Recipe for Its Famous Swedish Meatballs

After winding through a labyrinth of chic and affordable furniture at Ikea, stopping by the food court is a must. While the Swedish retailer is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, you can still shop its furniture online. And now you can cook Ikea's most popular dish at home because it just released the recipe for its iconic Swedish meatballs.

"We know that some people might be missing our meatballs, which is why we've released an at-home alternative which, using easily accessible ingredients, will help those looking for some inspiration in the kitchen," said Lorena Lourido, country food manager at Ikea, in a press release. "Staying at home can be hard, but we want to help make everyone's lives that little bit easier and more enjoyable. Bon appétit or, smaklig måltid, as we say in Sweden!"

Made of mostly beef and pork, the meatballs contain nine ingredients. The recipe also includes the brand's famous mouth-watering cream sauce, which contains eight ingredients. In Ikea fashion, the Swedish furniture retailer also shared step-by-step instructions with illustrations, making the six-step recipe super easy to follow. Below is the full list of ingredients:

Meatball Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince

  • 250g pork mince

  • 1 onion finely chopped

  • 1 clove of garlic (crushed or minced)

  • 100g breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 5 tablespoons of milk (whole milk)

  • Generous salt and pepper

Cream Sauce Ingredients:

  • Dash of oil

  • 40g butter

  • 40g plain flour

  • 150ml vegetable stock

  • 150 ml beef stock

  • 150ml thick double cream

  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
